RIP Joseph Shabalala

Today died Joseph Shabalala, the leader and one of the founders of the Zulu band Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Well known for advocating the pacifist transformation of society through the self, its lyrics and performances have been ever since the apartheid, one of the strongest embassies of South Africa. Here’s a moment from the concert at the Cadaval Palace the 25th of April, 2019.

From Paralium to the Empty Place - Galeria do Castelo de Mértola

Paralium (def.) That grows by the sea.

The exhibition presents archive images from Soul Frames Collective photographers André Paxiuta and Carlos Simes. Evolution and mutations of critical aspects of the territory and Portuguese society are evoked. The dichotomy littoral vs. interior is expressed on analogous landscapes, in their contemporary economical activities, demographic unevennesses, seasonal balances and other inner representations specific of the places.

Double Trouble

This involuntary double exposure - those occasional happenings which are one of the rewards from the frequent use of film -, can be read as the frame where the van crowded southwest of Portugal meets the similarly packed Yosemite valley in California; a journey to a place where I always dreamt of climbing and, my daily habit of documenting the reality and characters I come across where I live.

Rock Climbs at the Western Tip of Europe

After years of dedication to this ambitious project, it is done and published! Stoked with all the process and learnings throughout my author's work, happy with the end result; with the collaboration with Ricardo Alves I Photo and Versante Sud. To have fulfilled my main objectives of documenting Portugal's climbing community and crags and further expose them internationally in three different versions/languages: Portuguese, English and German. Hope you like it and make good use of it. Invitation done, happy climbs.
